PennWest Edinboro receives $12,000 during Erie Gives Day

Erie Gives Day 2025 was another success for the PennWest Edinboro community. The Edinboro University Foundation raised $12,000 for the Alumni Student Retention Fund, which supports students facing sudden and unexpected hardships. The program, which was founded in 2019, provides these students with financial assistance to help them through their final semesters at Edinboro and complete their degree.

“The Financial Aid Office reviews students’ financial needs, and if it is determined that all other options have been exhausted, this fund (Student Retention Fund) is utilized to assist the students in need,” said Chuck Scalise, executive director of the Edinboro University Foundation. “The university invites alumni and friends to contribute to the fund to help ensure students leave Edinboro with their diploma and are job-ready.”

Erie Gives Day allows the greater Erie area to come together annually to support local nonprofits. Since 2011, the Erie Community Foundation has hosted a 24-hour donation celebration each August, allowing individuals, families, and businesses to contribute to causes that have had a positive impact on the community. Over $11 million was raised through the celebration in 2025.

Erie Gives Day highlights the community's generosity. In addition, the Erie Community Foundation and corporate sponsors partially match every donation made within the 24 hours, amplifying the effect of each gift.

The Edinboro University Foundation staff thanks all who supported the organization on Erie Gives Day. If you missed the event this year, visit Edinboro University Foundation to learn more about how you can donate to PennWest Edinboro students today.
